"I've known Chris for about 15 years . Initially I had banjo lessons with him and although I wasn't an absolute beginner Chris introduced me to leading a tune as well as the importance of being able to back up other people when they are playing. This has proved to be a very important aspect when jamming with others.
As my main musical interests are bluegrass and old-time American music, Chris has been able to direct me over the years to festivals, workshops, music schools ( like Sore Fingers Summer School) and jamming sessions associated with this genre of music. I took up the 5-string banjo almost two years ago and found Chris Lawrance on the web. I've been having lessons ever since and couldn't have had a better teacher! Clear precise teaching, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of folk, bluegrass and old-time music, Chris's lessons are not only instructive but the are also a lot of fun. Chris' lessons, knowledge and his enthusiasm for the music have opened up a whole new area of music for me. I can strongly recommend him as a teacher!
